What is Apple?

Apple designs, manufactures and sells consumer hardware including the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods. Alongside hardware, it operates a large services business spanning the App Store, subscriptions such as Apple Music and iCloud, AppleCare, advertising and licensing arrangements.

The iPhone remains the company's largest single product line by revenue, while services have grown into a significant and higher-margin part of the business over time.

Why investors watch Apple

Apple is one of the largest constituents of both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100, so its share price movements can meaningfully influence how those indexes perform on a given day. Investors also watch its product launch cycles, services growth and capital-return program, which has historically included share buybacks and a dividend.

None of this guarantees future performance. A large installed base of devices does not eliminate competitive, regulatory or macroeconomic risk.
